OBD-II Diagnostic Powertrain (P) Trouble Code

Possible Cause

Common cause for P2751 is the valve is controlled by the PCM (or a similar controller) using inputs from sensors and other controllers in the controller area network (CAN). The CAN represents a communication bus that allows multiple microcontrollers.

Common Symptoms

  1. Carefully observe the resistance level of the sensor (on the screen of the digital volt/ohmmeter) as the temperature is elevated to see if it decreases smoothly
  2. Look for shorted or burned wiring and replace circuitry and connectors as required
  3. The exhaust gas temperature sensor is used in diesel engines, gasoline burning engines, and even turbocharged engines
  4. To perform a thorough diagnosis, any transmission leaks should be repaired and the transmission should be filled with the proper amount and type of fluid (if the fluid smells really "burnt" and you are experienced enough to detect it, you may go ahead and condemn the transmission)

P2751 Troubleshooting

If this is the case with the code, you will be hearing very loud noises, like explosions, from the rear of the vehicle upon acceleration. Firstly check the carburetor to ensure that the fuel and air combination are properly balanced. If these settings are correct, then thoroughly inspect the distributor cap for any cracks or hairline splits, as this can produce a backfire. Move on to the spark plugs and ensure that they are clean and undamaged and inspect the engine gaskets for any sign of damage, as they are responsible for ensuring the correct gas exchange within the engine. How to turn off P2751 check engine light ?

There are two ways to turn off the check engine light:

A repair technician can do so once repairs have been made.
The OBD II can automatically turn it off when it fails to detect the problem after several diagnostic cycles.
