P00A3 Code:

OBD-II Diagnostic Powertrain (P) Trouble Code

Possible Cause

Common cause for P00A3 is the valve is controlled by the PCM (or a similar controller) using inputs from sensors and other controllers in the controller area network (CAN). The CAN represents a communication bus that allows multiple microcontrollers.

Common Symptoms

  1. Test the wiring and connectors at the fuel shutoff valve to make sure that voltage and ground readings are near battery voltage
  2. As the input shaft is turned (by the engine) the electro magnetic input/turbine speed sensor uses the spaces between the splines to provide voltage signal interruptions in the circuit
  3. Typical resistance for this sensor should be approximately 150 ohms but double check manufacturer's specifications prior to testing
  4. Several tools will be instrumental in successfully diagnosing this code
