Possible Cause

By far the most common cause of thisB0163code is from worn or defective transmission shifter components. Other causes may include a defective range sensor, open, shorted, corroded, or otherwise damaged wiring and/or electrical connectors.

Common Symptoms

  1. An infrared thermometer with a laser pointer will also be helpful
  2. Repair or replace any open, shorted, damaged, or corroded items as required and retest the system to make sure that repairs were successful
  3. CAN is the abbreviation for "controller area network." The CAN represents a communication bus that allows multiple microcontrollers to communicate with one another without the need for a host computer
  4. If either the reference voltage or ground circuits are open, use the digital volt/ohmmeter to check for continuity (disconnect all related control modules from the circuit before checking circuit resistance or controller damage may occur) and resistance in all circuits

B0163 Troubleshooting

When you put your foot down on the brakes you expect your car to quietly slow down and come to a stop. The power your foot applies on the brake pedal is assisted by hydraulic pressure. Your foot's force engages a piston and caliper with brake pads attached (bonded abrasive and heat resistance metal or ceramic) to put pressure on the rotor. B0163 OBD2 reports a sensor fault, replacement of the sensor is unlikely to resolve the underlying problem. The fault is most likely to be caused by the systems that the sensor is monitoring, but might even be caused by the wiring to the sensor itself.

How to turn off B0163 check engine light ?

There are two ways to turn off the check engine light:

A repair technician can do so once repairs have been made.
The OBD II can automatically turn it off when it fails to detect the problem after several diagnostic cycles.
